Denzel Curry – TABOO | TA13OO 2018 Review
Denzel Curry has dropped his new album TABOO | TA13OO. I have looked forward to this for a while, as I consider Denzel Curry as one of the few prospects in the rap game now, that has real potential.
It is based off his freestyles as his solo albums has not been of my taste. I do like a few songs, like ULT and Zenith featuring Joey Bada$$, and his verse on Daye Jack’s song “Raw”, where he features on the remix with DP.
He was also part of the most iconic XXL Freshmen Cypher back in 2016, that featured Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty, 21 Savage and Kodak Black. A little warning: that cypher is addicting.
Denzel has the best verse of the bunch, the rest are just having fun. You can watch the cypher below:
I think my main problem with Denzel Curry has been his choice of production – that whole SoundCloud sound does not appeal to me. As a rapper, he is obviously very talented. I have not heard a bad freestyle from him so far and I respect him for going off the dome.
Now, let’s get into the actual album review.

The title track and intro, TABOO, started out very well. I thought “has he finally gotten it right?”, it reminded me a bit of Andre 3000 when he was singing. Awesome track.
BLACK BALLOONS a mellow track with easy on the ear production. But then it goes downhill from there and the inner SoundCloud rapper appears.
A lot of skippable tracks until we find the best track on the album, SIRENS, and his opening verse is just flawless, here we see what he is capable of. The rest of the tracks is also skippable, sadly.
Best tracks
SIRENS, TABOO, BLACK BALLOONS
He is still only 23 years old, so he has some years to grow and mature. I will definitely continue to keep an eye on him.
I will give him props on the artwork for the album, the music videos and his topics on the album. The production just ruins it for me.
I give this album a
5.5/10
