Planit Hank – Night Before Purgatory (EP) Review

This nice little EP “Night Before Purgatory” is by upcoming producer Planit Hank from Long Island, New York. I found this by chance when browsing around on the internet and I am glad that I did. What striked me at first was the features from past and present MC’s.
The EP is great from beginning to end and heavy influenced by the 90’s east coast boom bap sound that is my personal favorite.
The tracks are not all new apparently – some of them are a few years old. But they are all new to me.

1. The Omen ft. Canibus, Chris Rivers & Kool G Rap (Cuts By: DJ Evil Dee) 05:41
2. Finish Him ft. Styles P, Conway The Machine & Lil Fame (Cuts By: DJay Jung) 04:04
3. Life In Crooklyn ft. Jeru The Damaja, Buckshot (of Blackmoon) & AZ (Cuts By: DJ Evil Dee) 05:39
4. 80’s & 90’s ft. Mall Grime (Cuts By: DJay Jung) 03:59
5. What Happened To The Streets ft. Benny The Butcher & M.O.P. (Cuts By: Shylow the BeatYoda) 04:18
6. The Omen (DJ Evil Dee Remix) ft. Canibus, Chris Rivers & Kool G Rap 05:05
7. Finish Him (Marco Polo Remix) ft. Styles P, Conway The Machine & Lil Fame 03:53

With all these legends on the EP, it might be a surprise that I will claim that Chris Rivers (Big Pun’s son) has the best verse on the EP (fast forward to 2:40 on the video below for his verse). You can clearly hear that he is the son of Big Pun and he will go very far if he keeps this up. One of the few rappers that I have high hopes for from this generation of rap.

My favorite beat on this EP is “Life In Crooklyn” and I was so happy to hear Jeru The Damaja on a track like this again. He is one of my favorite MC’s of all time. Buckshot (from Blackmoon) follows up, takes the torch and passes it on to AZ who wraps up this amazing track. One of the best tracks I have heard in recent years.

Do not sleep on this EP – I came out of a hiatus to let you know about this EP.
